This project centred around the creation of a swim and beachwear collection of 4-6 looks for S/S 24, working with high street retailer John Lewis. It involved extensive creative sketchbook investigation to ensure that all the design elements, trend analysis, and consumer research aligned with the client's vision. Sustainability was an essential consideration, with the project requiring alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and integration of a zero-waste approach. The deliverable for the project was a professional digital Lookbook, highlighting key inspirations, market research, and brand understanding.
I developed a collection inspired by 'a summer picnic', exploring the vibrant colours and textures from my primary research while maintaining appeal for the John Lewis customer. In terms of fabrics, I abstracted and refined a strawberry-inspired print using Photoshop and Illustrator and created a textured fabric to subtly add further interest and align with trends. My trend research also informed the selection of warm, earthy tones such as chocolate brown and berry red, which were complemented with gold-finished plastic hardware.
Consideration of sustainability was essential throughout the design process; I utilised materials such as hemp cotton and ECONYL® to create long-lasting and environmentally conscious designs. The beachwear was designed with zero-waste pattern-cutting techniques, reducing the environmental impact of the production process. Additionally, the designs prioritise versatility, featuring adjustable elements and multi-wear options to meet the evolving needs of the customer and boost product longevity.
